I am...
an immigrant. I was born in Cebu, Philippines but was raised in Anchorage, Alaska. I am the fifth son out of six, born to Levy and Honorena Montuya. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I particularly enjoy cooking large and niche meals to share. My philosophy on cooking is that we "eat with our eyes first," so I take a meticulous step to plate my meals so that they have an appetizing appearance. I am looking forward to learning more about art this spring semester. Maybe the knowledge will improve my plating skills.

My relationship with art is lackluster. When I was younger, I enjoyed tracing pencil art. My favorites to trace were dragons and mythical creatures. Now a bit older, I do not find myself with a pencil in hand and a paper in front of me. Rather than participate, I observe. Now I enjoy going to museums and attending First Fridays. I am not sure if I need a catalyst to get a pencil in my hand, but I hope to start participating in art sometime soon.
Without observers, creators of art would be far and few between.
ReplyDeleteTo eat with one eyes only means to say that you have this je ne sais quoi of an 3-Star Michelin chef. You are right @Ukelele Fool to bring up 'observation' as the keystone to the creation of art. As Pollock once said, "the modern artist is working with space and time, and expressing his feelings rather than illustrating" is what you Gerald shall strive for.
ReplyDeletePlating food has increasingly become more and more of an art style. It's crazy how important plating is now a days where immense care is taken to create the perfect swirl or place a bay leaf in the perfect angle to where it catches the light at exactly the right angle at 10:38 in the morning (I'm only half joking with that exaggeration). Hopefully this class helps you upgrade your plating skills.
